Sometimes when we are trying to make our viewpoint known we can forget all about how to communicate. We may interrupt while someone is talking for many reasons.  We may be afraid we’re going to forget our important thought or we just want our opinion known because it is so different than who we are talking to. Did you notice that I wrote ‘talking to‘ instead of ‘talking with?’

You see, it is important to remember to be respectful when communicating. Being respectful means to listen while another is expressing their thoughts and feelings. They will feel heard.

So what happens if you get someone who isn’t respectful of your thoughts? You remember that from their point of view they feel they are right whether it makes sense or not. Because of their own life experiences they have come to a certain opinion of how it should be. It doesn’t necessarily make it right but it does make it more understandable, doesn’t it?

So next time you’re in a conversation with someone, remember to respect their thoughts even if you don’t agree with them. And do your best to make your voice heard but in a tone that shows respect, kindness, and compassion.

A loud voice doesn’t necessarily mean it will be heard my friend.
