Compassion doesn’t just happen. Compassion takes a conscious effort. In order to be compassionate you have to be present when listening to others. You must recognize what another is going through and understand that everyone goes through experiences that need compassion at times. Compassion means taking the hand that is reaching out to you. You can be compassionate in many different ways whether it is a hug, an understanding look, reassurance, or some type of action. Being able to understand and walk in another and their shoes is how you begin. You don’t need to take on what they are experiencing but you can reach for a deeper understanding and reach out to help.

Remember that in anything you think, say, and do it will always come back to you in some shape or form. Sometimes being compassionate can take effort but the effort is worth it when you see another calming down and feeling better because of what you have said or done.
